Newlyn Fish Festival

Celebrate all things fishy in one of Cornwall's most distinctive and original fishing villages. Satisfy your appetite at the seafood barbeque whilst enjoying the live entertainment and bidding at the seafood auction.

Newquay Fish Festival
held on 12th - 14th September 2008, 2009 dates TBC, Newquay
Newquay's harbour may be one of its lesser known treasures, but as this festival will testify, it's bounty is more than worthy of celebration. Seafood cookery demonstrations, marine wildlife watching trips will be available as well as local produce stalls.

Cornwall Food and Drink Festival
held on 26th - 28th September 2008, 2009 dates TBC, Truro
See Cornwall's top chefs in action as they whip up a feast using the best of Cornwall's ingredients. Inspirational cookery demonstrations run throughout the festival and you'll have the chance to buy from Cornish suppliers to recreate the dishes at home.

Falmouth Oyster Festival

Made in Cornwall Christmas Fair

The popular seasonal fair of Cornish crafts, food and drink, held in the centre of the historic city of Truro.

Trelissick Christmas Market

A heated marquee in the elegant surroundings of Trelissick. Chestnut sellers, carol singing, craft demonstrations and other entertainments will be there to support local food and craft stalls.

Newquay Christmas Festival
21st-23rd Dec, Fore Street
Fantastic new event starting this year, a 3 day festival celebrating the arts, music, food and theatre. Real ale festival, young upcoming bands, food tasting events and stalls, an event not to be missed.

If you don't manage to get to a market and sample some classic Cornish fayre, don't worry have a go yourself! How about the cornish pasty, the most iconic of Cornish foods...

Cornish Pasty

What you need:
1lb shortcrust pastry
12 ozs raw mutton, beef steak or skirt
4 ozs potatoes
2 ozs turnip
1 small onion chopped
3 tbsps cold water
seasoning

1. Make the pastry and roll out to about a quarter of an inch thick. Cut into four rounds, using a saucer or a small plate.
2. Cut up the meat into small pieces leaving off any fat or gristle
3. Finely slice or dice the raw potato, turnip and onion
4. Mix the meat, onion, turnip and potato together very thoroughly,add salt and pepper and about three tablespoonfuls of cold water
5. Place some of this filling on one half of each circle of pastry,damp the edges of the latter with cold water and fold over to cover the mixture
6. Press the edges of the pastry together
7. Brush the pasty with a little milk or beaten egg
8. Bake it in a pre-heated oven at 200C (gas mark 6) for about 50mins or until golden brown
