Family Newquay

Lets build a sandcastle!

As you know, Newquay has loads of beaches and that means one thing....sand and lots of it! So to get you on your way, here are a few top tips for building the best sandcastle anyone has ever seen!

Four essential ingredients

1. 1 spade or a pair of hands!
2. Sunscreen - don't forget to put some on!
3. Various-size buckets
4. SAND!

Step 1
Mark a rough circle in the moist sand not too close to the water's edge. (If its moist the sand will pack together better)

Step 2
Scoop wet sand onto the center of the area in which you'll be working. Work fast so the sand stays wet! Once you've got a good mound pat it down with your hands or the back of a spade

Step 3

Flatten the top of the mound and using your bucket/s filled with sand, make smaller turrets on the top. Do the same around the outside of your mound. Your castle is really taking shape!

Step 4
Dig a moat around the castle to protect it from invaders, such as dogs or your little sister or brother!

Step 5
Be creative - add stones, shells, flags or you can even dig a tunnel through your castle. (to do this, carefully burrow downwards with your hand under the base before coming back up again)

Step 6
Take a photo and send it to your mates, you are a champion sandcastle builder!
