Richard Gillis Sun Cream is an original Cornish Cottage Industry. In the early 1940s, Richard Gillis, a pharmacist in Newquay, Cornwall, became interested in developing a sun cream to protect the visitors and locals using the towns beaches. The inspiration came to him after a dermatologist friend lent him some books that he acquired whilst in America. In 1945 he began selling the non-greasy, non-staining sun cream from his chemist shop in Newquay.
The Gillis brand is now once again being manufactured in Newquay, by the Kaye family, who have been Pharmacists in Newquay since 1970.
