Newquay Safe Actions

The Newquay Safe Partnership agreed, on 28 July 2009, a number of actions to be carried out immediately. The key actions from the first meeting of the Newquay Safe Partnership are:

1. Dealing with unaccompanied Under 16's
The Police immediately established a direct link with the Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) with a view to young people aged under 16 being returned under supervision to parents / guardians. Exact legal position of unaccompanied16-18's to be established.

2. Newquay Safe awareness publicity campaign
An Awareness campaign was developed and put it into operation as soon as possible for the remained of the Summer 2009. The campaign was launched in Newquay on 7 August.

3. New Members / Licensing training
Visit to Newquay on evening of 31 July undertaken by members of licensing particularly in relation to demonstrating ‘cumulative impact'.

4. Extra Signing to highlight alcohol ban in town centre
80 new signs commissioned and to be erected asap.

5. Street Safe portacabin
Will now operate for the remainder of the season.

6. 'Night Marshalls / Wardens'
Recently commissioned and now in operation.

7. Street Pastors
Being trained and will regularly visit Newquay at night from September.

8. Alcohol Strips to test ‘soft drinks'
Being progressed and may need some additional funding.

9. Test Purchasing
Continued regular programme for rest of 2009 season.

10. Pub Crawls / Code of Conduct
Increase effort by Town Centre Manager and supported by NALP (Newquay Association of Licensed Premises).

11. Fake ID's
Agreed that passports / driving licenses will be the only form of ID allowed. Being actioned by Police / PH&P and supported by NALP. Posters to promote the message are being produced.

12. Exodus scheme
Cabinet and Leader have been briefed. The scheme needs additional funding to be able to operate for 4 weeks in 2010.

13. Alcohol Disorder Zone (ADZ)
Urgently investigate the future introduction of an Alcohol Disorder Zone in Newquay.
