Getting to Newquay could not be easier with a train station, bus station and is only 6 miles from Cornwall Airport Newquay!
Cornwall is served by several bus companies but Newquay is mainly covered by FirstKernow. New Summer timetables are available in May and the website TravelineSW has bus timetables for most operators as far as Bristol. There is a ‘plan your journey’ option that allows you to put in your ‘from’ and ‘to’ journey location. First operates bus services throughout the UK as well.
Newquay is on the North coast of Cornwall and direct bus services run to Truro, Padstow, and St Austell. The Eden project currently requires you to change at St Austell. As a rough guide, most buses to destinations further than 15miles (22km) will involve changes so for example Newquay to St Ives or Falmouth involve changing at Truro.
Newquay is part of the National Express network and the main stop is at Newquay Bus Station on Manor Road, just off the town centre. There is a secondary stop at Porth Four Turns but this is for passengers with hand luggage only as the vehicle cannot stop long enough to open its main luggage compartment. Visit Newquay Tourist Information Centre is a booking agent for National Express and we can book your ticket in the office on Marcus Hill, TR7 1BD open 7 days a week.
We now sell National Express Coachcard’s: Senior, Disabled, Family 2plus2, Family 1plus1 and Young Persons
The Megabus coach service has a stop at Newquay bus station but this can only be booked, in advance through their own website.
One of the most practical ways of seeing Newquay and Cornwall is by car. There are many bus services and day trips covering the county but to get around Cornwall and see the great out of the way places a car gives you that freedom. The main motorway to Cornwall is the M5 serving Exeter, Bristol and all points North whilst from London the choice is the mainly dual carriageway A303/A30 or the M4/M5 via Bristol.
From Exeter follow the A30 to Cornwall and Newquay is fully signposted from the A30.
Newquay is on its own branch line, the Par to Newquay Atlantic Coast Line. Par is the connection to the Plymouth to Penzance main line and is just outside St Austell, on the Cornish south coast. The Plymouth to Penzance mainline then connects country wide. In the Summer, normally from the end of May to the end of September, Newquay has direct trains from London, Bristol, Birmingham, Yorkshire, the North East and Scotland (subject to operator changes or replacements). There is a daily London service from Newquay during July and August. Great value fares can be found if you book in advance, the earlier you book the more you save.
The railway station is located in the heart of the town on Cliff Road. The train station is seasonally manned. The station does not have a automated ticket machine so when the ticket office is not open tickets can be bought either on the train or online. Branch lines from the Plymouth/Penzance main line also serve St Ives, Falmouth and Looe. St Ives can get particularly busy for traffic in the Summer so the ‘Park and Ride, 5 miles out of St Ives at Lelant Saltings, is a good option. Bus connections put other areas and attractions in Cornwall within easy reach.
A good way to match up rail and bus services is the travel website TravelineSW which allows you to choose you ‘plan you journey’ by entering your ‘from’ and ‘to’ locations and all transport options will be listed.
