Top 5 Family Fun Adventures in Newquay
26th July 2019
This week, we’ve got a blog post written on behalf of Parkdean Resorts, the UK’s largest holiday park provider. They’ve been working on a new project called the Best of Britain, which aims to celebrate some of the top places to visit around the UK, and they’ve recently visited Newquay!
Working with Claire from Tin Box Traveller, a leading family travel blogger, they’ve unearthed some of the best family activities in and around Newquay. Here are some of the amazing places Claire and her family explored.
Towan Beach
Newquay is home to an array of golden sandy beaches, so wherever you’re staying, you’ll be spoilt for choice. One of the most popular beaches in the centre of Newquay is Towan Beach, home to the iconic suspension bridge that connects the tiny Towan Island with the mainland.
If you’re visiting at low tide, you’ll be able to walk underneath the bridge and discover rock pools and caves along the way. Located directly next to the beach is Blue Reef Aquarium, the perfect attraction to visit after exploring the beach. From sharks and turtles, to octopus and rays, there are so many different creatures to see!
Trerice
Built in 1573, Trerice is an Elizabethan manor house that is steeped in history. With a stunning interior and beautiful gardens, it’s the perfect place for a family day out. Some of the highlights from inside the house include the original 16th century glass panes in the Great Hall window, the view from the Great Chamber and the barn, which was once used for storing grain many years ago.
During the summer holidays, there’s so much going on in the gardens for the kids to enjoy. From archery to Tudor costume days, children and adults alike will have a great day out.
Newquay Zoo
No family visit would be complete without a trip to the zoo, and Newquay is home to one of the best. There are over 130 species at Newquay Zoo, including monkeys, zebras, birds, snakes and so much more!
A top tip is to plan your day around the animal talks and feeding times, that regularly occur throughout the day. Watch the cheeky meerkats play, hear all about the zoo’s penguins and lookout for the lions devouring their lunch on a visit. Each talk is announced before it begins, so you don’t have to worry about missing any.
Bedruthan Steps
Bedruthan Steps is one of the most popular places to visit on the north Cornish coast. According to legend, these rocky sea stacks that are dotted along the beach were originally stepping stones for a giant named Bedruthan to get across the bay.
From the clifftops, you’ll be greeted with spectacular sea views, and there are a range of fantastic coastal walks to enjoy nearby too. At low tide, you’ll find a beautiful sandy beach, bordered by caves. When the tide is out, you can walk down the 120 steps onto the sand and explore what the area has to offer. If you’re visiting in the evening, it’s the perfect place to sit down with a picnic and watch the sunset.
Pirate’s Quest
If you’re looking for something both fun and educational, then Pirate’s Quest is a must-visit attraction! This immersive walk-through experience takes you through Cornwall’s maritime and smuggling past, telling you real-life stories from the 18th century along the way.
If you’re visiting with children who are feeling brave, there’s also the ‘scare section’, filled with smoke effects, eerie lighting and loud noises, as well as a few live performers to make you jump!
