Being known as the surfing capital of England, Newquay’s main attraction would be one of the great sandy beaches which surrounds the town and surrounding villages - you will be spoilt for choice! Whether you are looking for family day out where you can have space for your children to run a round and happily build sandcastles and paddle knowing there are lifeguards nearby to keep the beach safe or maybe you might fancy something a little more adventurous and want to try your hand at surfing then Newquay has different surf schools for each of the beaches to teach you.
Newquay Harbour really is a hidden gem of Newquay and worth a visit. When the tide is coming in you will find the local fisherman bringing in their catch for the day and sometimes a cheeky little seal or two following not far behind! Fishing trips and sea safaris can also be booked down at the Harbour although families are often spotted sitting along the harbour wall with their crab lines and buckets (available from the VisitNewquay Tourist Information Centre) dangling in water hoping to catch a little crab! Fancy a bite to eat then the Harbour Rest Café at the top of South Quay Hill does some tasty homemade scones perfect for a cream tea!
Also keep a look out for the local gigs which are kept down at the Harbour and taken out for local races and championships various days of the week…
Moving away from the beaches and just a short walk from the town centre you will find the tranquillity and beauty from Trenance Gardens and Boating Lake… stunning scenery and space for families to play and even enjoy a picnic. The Boating Lake boasts a variety of birds and wildlife to spot; you can even hire out boats to get a closer view. Across from the Trenance Gardens is Trenance Leisure Park which includes Pitch N Putt, a free play park – with climbing wall, miniature train and tennis courts, Newquay Zoo and Waterworld Leisure Centre.
