Accessible Adventure
Water-Based Experiences for Everyone
The aim is to make the activity as accessible as is possible. Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) sessions with inflatable seats and stabilisers, making it safe and enjoyable for all. As a mobile company, wthey bring the boards to you. The qualified instructors can guide you on a range of Cornish rivers, beaches, and coves - choosing the best location based on tide and weather conditions to give you the best possible experience.
Coasteering: Prefer something more adventurous? Try Coasteering in Newquay with Dave, their expert instructor with over 15 years of experience on this stunning stretch of coastline. Each trip is unique and tailored to the conditions and your comfort level.
Private Sessions: They specialise in small-group sessions but can provide private activities if you’d rather not be with the general public—ideal for those with anxiety or specific needs.
Newquay Zoo
Encounter the wildlife in almost all areas of the Zoo.
Good accessibility overall, with some specific limitations: Newquay Zoo is committed to ‘Access for All’. Reasonably wheelchair and pushchair friendly, with the majority of routes accessible for all. Some routes have a slightly steep incline or rough path surface, therefore not all paths are easy to manage in a manual wheelchair. Accessibility maps are also available to pick up at the front entrance on arrival. With each guest with a disability ticket, we offer free entry for the accompanying carer or helper if required. Conditions apply.
Assistance dogs: Newquay Zoo welcomes assistance dogs . Please discuss access and safety with staff at the entrance. They do not currently allow emotional support animals access to their site.
Parking: There are 5 disabled car parking spaces in the Council owned car park adjacent to Newquay Zoo. Blue badge holders must pay the normal parking charges unless the vehicle is registered under the Cornwall Council exemption scheme, or the vehicle has been specially adapted for a disabled person.
Toilets: These are located just inside the main entrance of Newquay Zoo and opposite the meerkats at the top end of the zoo. A Changing Places toilet is located near the entrance to Newquay Zoo, next to the front office and includes a hoist system, adult sized changing bench, adjustable sink, privacy screen and space for one person with a disability and up to two carers. Please note that a sling is not provided.
Blue Reef Aquarium
Explore under the sea from the land
Good accessibility overall, but with some specific limitations: The aquarium has ramps throughout and multi-level viewing. Access for wheelchairs and mobility scooters. The only area that is currently inaccessible is our Nursery tanks. There is a lift to reach the first floor of the Aquarium, the gift shop and the cafe. In some areas of the Aquarium there is low lighting for the welfare of our marine life, creating a more natural environment for them.
Dogs: Access is only available for service dogs and accredited Assistance dogs
Parking: If you require disabled access, please check with the aquarium reception prior to your journey. The Aquarium is located right on the beach, there is limited parking available for disabled badge holders, so all spaces are on a first come, first served basis. Passengers can be dropped off by the aquarium on Beach Road where necessary, please note this is a dead end road.
Beach Wheechair: The Blue Reef Aquaruium has a dedicated disabled beach chair, to be used strictly on Towan Beach. To enquire about this wheelchair, please call on 01637 878134.
Toilets: There is one accessible toilet located on the first floor.
Cardinham Woods
Trails and Wildlife for all
Good accessibility overall, but with some natural terrain limitations: Cardinham Woods have lots of walking and cycling trails that are comfortable for a range of abilities. Four accessible parking bays which are opposite the payment machines in the centre of the car park. Parking charges apply to all spaces, including for visitors with a blue badge.
Suggested Trail: The Lady Vale walk is an easy access trail, suitable for manual wheelchairs, pushchairs, and mobility scooters. Our all-terrain mobility scooter can access the Callywith Wood walk and Lidcutt Loop.
Hire: You can hire an all-terrain mobility scooter from the Ranger's Hut. Pre-booking is essential so we can provide you with a smooth hire experience.
Toilets and changing rooms: There is an adult-sized changing mat available from the Ranger's Hut during opening hours. The accessible toilet door is 1 metre wide, manual opening with no key required. The visitor services team are first aid and disability awareness trained and can be found at the Ranger's Hut during opening hours.
Bridge Bike Hire
Everyone can explore the Camel Trail
Good accessibility, enhanced when using the special cycles available: Accessibility Bike Hire On The Camel Trail. Everyone can enjoy the Camel Trail's wonderful views and wildlife with specialized equipment such as adaptive cycles and the new wheelchair bike.
Easy Access: The premises and forecourt have direct, step-free and traffic-free access to the Camel Trail and toilets are a stones throw away and on the Camel Trail. Parking is very close and easily accessible.
Lappa Valley Steam Railway
Enjoy the history of steam trains in an accessible way
Good accessibility overall, but with some access limitations: Lappa Valley has two wheelchairs available to borrow. If you are bringing your own wheelchair, please note that the maximum size they can fit onto a carriage’s is 130 cm high x 120 cm long (front to back) x 70 cm wide. The train that takes you to and from the park has specially adapted (ramped) compartments suitable for wheelchairs and staff will assist with access. Please note that the two miniature trains are too small to accommodate wheelchairs.
Getting around: Around half of the attraction, once you arrive by train, is accessible by wheelchairs with hard paved paths connecting the train platform with the Engine Shed Cafe, play areas and toilet block.
Toilets and changing facilities: Accessible facilities are provided at the Ticket Office and main toilet block. The Engine Shed is where you will find the most accessible facilities, Changing Places toilet and changing facility.
Sensory issues and ASD: Lappa Valley are happy to accommodate many special requests from families in order to make your day out as comfortable as they can.
Screech Owl Sanctuary
Enclosures now designed for an accessible experience
Good accessibility overall: The Screech Owl Santuary have rebuilt their enclosures to ensure access is wheelchair friendly to provide accessibility for all to some of their encounters. The site is wheelchair friendly, they have one that can be pre-booked and is accessible to motorised scooters. They offer free entry for a carer with a full paying cared for person.
Parking: We provide reserved accessible parking near the entrance, and have a wheelchair on site which can be pre-booked.
Assistance Dogs: Fully trained special assistance dogs are welcome around the site wearing their identifying jackets, but must not be in the flying area during the displays. Assistance dog visits should be pre-booked.
Toilets: Accessible toilet is fitted with hand rails and raised toilet seat, low level wash basins and there is an alarm cord if assistance is required.
Cornwall Gold
Good Accessibility: The spacious showroom allows full access even when busy. Large turning circles and flat fronted cabinets enable closeup browsing suitable for buggies, wheelchairs and mobility scooters. One-to-one shopping is available as well as the Pick-a-Pearl experience that can be enjoyed by everyone.The entrance to our spacious Pantry Café and Terrace is connected to the main venue. The Pantry Café and Terrace has no fixed tables or chairs, for free movement.
Toilets: Our accessible toilet has grab rails and doors wide enough for both manual and powered wheelchairs. A baby changing facility is available in the accessible toilet as well as in the main ladies toilets, with space for a pram or pushchair.
Parking: Cornwall Gold offer free parking in a large, onsite carpark.
Trerice Manor
Moderate Access with some issues with the terrain & steps: Trerice is an old Manor house with traditional gravel The ground floor of the House has step-free level access into and through some areas. Other points of interest throughout the site are accessed via ramps/slopes or steps. Some main routes around the site have ramps/slopes and uneven and gravel surfaces, so manual wheelchairs can be borrowed from the Visitor Reception. The National Trust recommends booking these items in advance. The shop situated on the ground floor of the house.
Ramped access/slopes: Sloped access to barn café and hayloft. Grounds partly accessible, some steep slopes.
Parking: 8 accessible parking spaces in main car park. Car park has hard surface tarmac and gravel in the parking bays.
Toilet Facilities: Adapted toilet in the toilets.
Wheelchairs Available: Limited number of manual wheelchairs available to hire by calling 01637 875404.
The Japanese Garden
Moderate Access with some issues with the terrain & paths: The garden is approximately one acre in size and whilst mostly accessible they do have gravel gravel paths, so access can depend on the type of wheelchair or scooter. Overal the garden is relatively flat throughout but the ground itself can be uneven.
Toilets: None on site. Public toilet facilities approximately 20 meters from car park entrance
Dogs: Dogs are not allowed in The Japanese Garden itself (except guide dogs*). Therapy dogs are not allowed in the Japanese garden itself but are welcome in the shop and nursery if kept on a lead.
Parking: Free of charge car park.
Camel Creek
Moderate accessibility overall with adventure rides access and safety the key considerations: In line with being Members of the British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions (BALPPA) they welcome visits by disabled people and do all that is possible to ensure a safe and pleasurable stay for all. However, certain rides/attractions in our parks can be physically demanding and vigorous, therefore this can limit access. Camel Creek's website goes into detail about access for each part of the attraction, far more than we can here, so we would recommend visiting their dedicated page for MORE INFORMATION.
Site access: Camel Creek welcome all types of mobility vehicles and have a number of manual wheelchairs available to borrow on a first come first served basis. The Park is located on a gentle slope. There is a gift shop together with restaurants and cafes complimenting the rides and animal enclosures all with easy access.
Toilets: Since reopening, Camel Creek have added a Changing Places Toilet facility.
