Two friends, living close by, have decided to open their small gardens in Trevone for the National Garden Scheme.

Trenant & Hallworthy, Parkenhead Lane, Trevone PL28 8QH will open

Combined admission of £7, children free.

These two gardens each surround a 1960s bungalow and creating them over recent years has been a passion for the two owners. Trenant, the larger of the pair, has a lovely mix of perennials, shrubs and trees with a hidden pathway to a mini croquet lawn. Hallworthy has raised vegetable and flower beds with succulents and anemones. It's amusingly described as “the 2nd chance garden” because virtually every plant has been purchased at reduced price, donated or grown from locally sourced cuttings!

Trenant is bounded on two sides by fields, Trenant is an attractive 2/3 of an acre garden surrounding a renovated 60s bungalow. The front garden is used largely for parking but has a shady Cornish palm area with sea views. To the rear, three paved seating areas offer views of different aspects inc a productive vegetable garden and fruit cage as well as dividing hedges, walkways and mixed beds of perennials, shrubs and trees. Planting is varied and colourful with no particular theme but the result of finding a home for garden centre bargains and gifts of cuttings and plants. Many plants, inc roses such as “Compassion”, do well here. A hidden pathway and a mini croquet lawn complete the enjoyment of the space.

Hallworthy was all lawns surrounding the 1960s bungalow when purchased by current owners in 2018 except a small copse and two very old camellias.  Landscaping began some 2 yrs later to create herbaceous borders, patios and a jungle themed garden consisting of cordylines, phormiums, palms and grasses.  To the rear there are raised vegetable and flower beds and to the front agapanthas beds, with Dicksonia, Trachycarpus, Fatsia in pots and three enormous Flax.  The side border consists of succulents, hellebores, lilies anemones etc.  Described as “the 2nd chance garden” virtually every plant in this area has been purchased at reduced price, donated or grown from locally sourced cuttings.  The two old camellias – they survived too.

 

Tea, coffee & cakes. Money raised goes to a range of nursing and health charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie and Parkinson's UK.
