August in Newquay: Summer Days on the North Cornwall Coast

August is when summer really settles into Newquay. With long, bright days, beaches at their liveliest and plenty happening across the town and surrounding coastline, it’s a brilliant time to experience everything North Cornwall has to offer.
Whether you’re heading out for an early morning swim, exploring the South West Coast Path, spending the day on the beach or simply looking for somewhere to sit back with a cold drink and take in the view, August is all about making the most of your time by the coast.
And when you’re ready for a break, The Bowgie in West Pentire is perfectly placed for taking in the spectacular views across Crantock Beach.
Summer Days, Your Way
There’s no right or wrong way to spend a summer’s day in Newquay. Start with a coffee and a slice of homemade cake before heading down to the beach for a morning dip. Spend the afternoon exploring th coastline around Crantock and West Pentire, or settle in for a leisurely lunch and take your time over it.
For something a little more relaxed, find a spot on The Bowgie’s terrace, order an ice-cold drink and watch the world go by with the Atlantic stretching out in front of you.
Of course, the Cornish weather likes to keep everyone on their toes! If the sunshine disappears for a while, there’s still plenty to enjoy. Head indoors for lunch, coffee and cake, or challenge your friends and family to a game of pool while you wait for the skies to brighten.
However you choose to spend your August in Newquay, it’s worth leaving a little room in your plans for those slower moments.
Explore the Coastline
August is a great time to explore beyond Newquay’s beaches and discover some of the spectacular coastline surrounding the town.
The South West Coast Path offers some incredible walking routes, with views across the Atlantic, dramatic cliffs and plenty of opportunities to stop and take it all in.
The walk around West Pentire and towards Crantock is particularly beautiful, especially on a sunny summer’s day. And after a morning of exploring, The Bowgie makes a great place to stop for lunch, a drink or something sweet while enjoying the views.
If you’re visiting with the family, there’s also plenty of opportunity to mix up your beach days with exploring, coastal walks and discovering some of the quieter corners of the area.
Sunday Roasts Are Here to Stay
Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean you have to wait until winter for a proper Sunday Roast.
The Bowgie’s famous Sunday Roasts continue throughout August, with all the essentials you’d hope for - crispy roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, plenty of gravy and all the trimmings.
There’s something particularly lovely about sitting down to a Sunday Roast after a day exploring the Cornish coast, especially when you can follow it with a stroll and a sea view.
They’re incredibly popular, so if a roast is part of your holiday plans, it’s worth booking ahead.
Make the Most of August in Newquay
With the school holidays in full swing and hopefully plenty more sunshine to come, August is a wonderful time to experience Newquay and the surrounding coastline.
Spend your days swimming, surfing, walking and exploring, then slow things down with a long lunch, an evening meal or a cold drink overlooking the Atlantic.
Whether you’re visiting for a few days or making the most of a longer Cornish escape, The Bowgie is the perfect place to pause, take in the view and enjoy a little taste of summer in West Pentire.
Here’s to making the most of the last full month of summer on the Cornish coast.
